Channelling Marie Kondo and acting as your personal Beauty Organisational Fairy, here are our 10 tips for curating a minimal beauty bag.
Is your beauty bag always the heaviest part of your suitcase? We hear you. Our latest curation is full of recommendations for what to pack on your next weekend away. It’s about finding the balance between having the products you love, those that are effective at keeping your skincare in-check while travelling, while also keeping things as minimal and lightweight as possible.
MINIMAL SKINCARE ESSENTIALS
1. Choose your cleanser
Whether you’re an AM & PM , a double cleanser, a nighttime-only minimalist, or even – no judgement – a risk taking, cleansing-wipe devotee, you always need a cleansing product in your travel bag. If you’re currently staring off a hotel bar of soap, step away, now.
We recomend Nuori Vital Foaming Cleanser for a gentle formula that easily rinses off. OM-SE’s Face Cleansing Oil is available in a convenient travel size and satisfies those who need an oil-based cleanser for makeup removal, moisture boosting or facial massage. Josh Rosebrook’s Complete Moisture Cleanse is a go-to all rounder for gentle cleansing without stripping skin of moisture.
2. Choose your hydration
Serum, oil, treatment or cream – you might prefer to stick with your current routine or keep things minimal with one hydration product. We love travelling with VENN’s Age Reversing All In One Concentrate. It’s suitable for all skin types and the 20ml size is small enough to leave room in the bag for a booster product – we recommend a targeted serum from VENN, Lernberger Stafsing or Oio Lab. MINIMAL MAKEUP ESSENTIALS
3. Multi-purpose colour
While we’re often tempted to bring every single makeup product we own just in case, the reality of a weekend away or holiday means minimal makeup and keeping our routine quick. After all, you’ve got more exciting things to see and do! We advocate for the multi-purpose benefits of our Swedish makeup line Manasi 7.
Select one or two shades of All Over Colour – perhaps the neutral Manketti that tripples as a bronzer (on light-medium skin), nude lip and cream eyeshadow. Add a pop of colour for both cheek and lip. Our current favourite is the punchy coral Sanguinello for those hanging onto the sunshine. For a more berry tone, look to Kuranberi and a pink flush we love Dianthus. While Etruscan is the shade for you if you want something not too pink, not too peach, not too muted and not too brown – something just right.
When skin is hydrated and radiant, you’ll often feel the need for far less makeup. A touch of glow is easy courtesy of Strobelighter in Elysian – a creamy highlighter that can be used on cheekbones and doubles as a beautiful cream eyeshadow. For a more pearlescent glow, we recommend Celestial. For mature and dry skin needing an extra boost, the dewy All Over Shine in Kaito is youthfulness in a pot.
5. Daytime touch-ups
What’s a handbag without a lip product? We reach for Henne Organics Luxury Lip Tints to impart a sheer wash of colour. Blissful is a beautiful shade that falls between a pink, a berry and a red that suits almost everyone. Go gently for subtle my lips but better or build it up for more intensity. Our minimalist tip? This doubles as a radiant blush touch-up throughout the day to refresh your look.
6. The Just In Case Red
The quintessential beauty product, a red lipstick is always useful – it even helped get Jennifer Connelly out of trouble in cult film The Labyrinth. Whether it’s for a daytime look or an unexpected evening soiree, Madame Gabriela’s Paris at 7pm is always a good one to have in your beauty bag. Apply dabbed over a lip balm for a subtle affair, use on cheeks to perk up your complexion or swipe on for full, matte intensity.
7. The Spot Remover
We’re not talking stains on your white shirt – although, in our experience, cold water and dishwashing detergent quick is usually your best bet. Travelling often causes spots – whether it’s airplane induced, the stress of departure or simply overindulging in sweet treats. Maintaining a cleansing routine is vital, and we get a little help from Nuori’s Clarity Spot Treatment. With glycolic, lactic acid and niacinamide, this tiny tube is perfect for the minimalist beauty bag. Apply as soon as you feel a spot coming, then reapply morning and night.
8. The Moisture Boost
Sometimes, despite your best efforts, skin just goes out of whack while you’re away. If you’re prone to experiencing dry skin your daily moisturiser alone just mightn’t cut it. We love to keep a favourite facial oil or balm in our bag for dealing with dry skin – whether it’s on your face, hands or body. Josh Rosebrook Vital Balm Cream is a favourite if you’re fearful of travelling with liquids, as the solid balm melts down to an oil when warmed between fingers. We love OM-SE Renewing Face Oil that’s great for mature and sensitive skin (the travel size is perfect for minimalists), Lernberger Stafsing Facial Oil that combines almond, jojoba, grape seed and evening primrose oil, and VENN Advanced Multi Perfecting Red Oil Serum that deeply hydrates.
9. The Hairbrush
We wouldn’t go anywhere without our Manta. The cult hairbrush that can be used wet and dry, is perfect for detangling and creates beautiful shine while being gentle on hair and scalp. The Manta Brush is available in four colours and even comes ready for travel with it’s own pouch. No separate comb and brush required.
10. The Miracle Oils
What’s a travel bag without a haircare miracle worker? When it comes to hair, we trust LA’s oracle herself and founder of ROZ Mara Roszak with our tresses. The Santa Lucia Styling Oil is the easiest one-and-done product to take away with you. Apply on wet hair to detangle and add hydration, or on dry hair to calm frizz, flyaways and add shine. If repair is more your priority, add Willow Glen Treatment Oil to your bag. This multi-purpose miracle can be used as a deep treatment on hair, or anywhere on the body that needs hydration.
